FAQs

If you are applying for a first-time Employee Card, you must apply for it at a Czech Embassy.

A Czech Employee Card is a  long-term residency with the purpose of a foreigner’s employment in the Czech Republic. Many people call this a work visa, or an employment visa.

The Employee Card will be valid for 2 years maximum. Afterwards, all renewals / extensions are also for 2 years.

All fields in the application form for Czech Employee Cards are important, and many are mandatory. Be careful to fill out the correct information, and not to miss any fields. All application forms will require complete information and details about the applicant for processing.

The “Vacancy Number” field is where you should put the number of the job vacancy from the Labour Office database. This is generated for the purpose of hiring foreigners in the Czech Republic. It is also a mandatory field. Find the vacancy number of the post you are applying for, and include it in the Employee Card application.

Foreigners without free access to the labor market can only take job posts with vacancy numbers older than 30 days. This requires the employer to publicly announce the job, which provides time for Czech / EU citizens to respond first. If there is no interest in the vacancy after 30 days, the employer can then hire a foreigner under the older vacancy number.
